Topic: possible match holder

firstly my thanks to Anne (Mod.) for assisting with my post here - technology not my strong point  -  I've sent pix of this to Pamela Wessendorf, who  has promised to have a look when time permits - I've already looked Pamela's 'Glass Museum' but wasn't aware of seeing this though may well have missed it.                           This one lacks any marks and everything above the base is frosted, and in view of the hollow drum then 'match holder' came to mind, but that's a guess.     Is the figure a dog or lion - I'm not entirely sure but seems to look more like a lion IMHO, and the cap/hat looks to owe a lot to 'Marianne' in France.  Height is c. 18 cms. and it's heavy and well modelled with considerable wear on the foot rim.            In view of the hat then France as a possible origin came to mind, but really flying a kite with that idea.               I could be missing some rather obvious feature, in which case do shout, and thanks for looking  -  a recent charity shop purchase.  Comes as a nasty shock to need to re-size pix for the GMB  -  other platforms accept much larger files  -  so a plea to Angela to allow full size pix

Great piece, Baccarat match holder,see bottom of page 14, my father has several bits from this article and we have a male lion with the same pattern on the plinth. Regards Mike

very big thanks Mike  -  you're a genius, and quick too  -  well, at least I had the French bit correct and probably the hat is supposed to be Marianne's :-).           Baccarat were/are high quality makers and this one is no exception  -  the modelling is superb.     So we're going with a date of 'late C19' would you agree ??   This one has survived without even a flea bite - remarkable after all these years.
I forget who supplied these catalogue pages  -  it may have been Pamela, and she may have sourced these from one of the well known German researchers  -  so well known in fact that I've forgotten his name:-)

Hi Paul, good to see you back on the board again. Sadly we cannot have full-size images on the board as the server the board runs on won't cope with them. It takes way more resources to handle big images than the server hosting allows us, which is why we have the limits we have.

I understand Anne  -  no matter ...........   having spent time on platforms with larger capacity, it's just a case of acclimatising myself to a smaller size.

I know, it's frustrating Paul, but they have way more resources than we have, loads of advertisers etc... :'(
