Topic: cut and engraved decanter

unmarked so maker and origin unlikely to be known, but a worthy example of a shaft and globe bottle, and the neck rivets testimony to the love someone once had for this piece.     Quality cutting and engraving as can be seen in the pix  -  the matching No. is proof that the two parts belong together, and the stopper fit is remarkably good despite the earlier damage  -  about 30.5 cms. tall including the stopper.            Age - speculative  -  any where between c. 1880 and 1930 - the rivets suggest earlier in this period.

Do you think the very top of the decanter has been cut down as there’s no lip? Good old fashioned staple repair though.

I can see the remains of gold on the engraving.  It looks as though it would have originally been all gilded.

thanks for the suggestions  -  might possibly have been reduced in height slightly, but the stopper still seems to fit well and the opening still shows signs of bevelling  -  sorry, not gilded at all - it was just my rubbish photography - mistakenly using electric light that gave the appearance of gilding  -  have now attached a better picture using just daylight.
