Merlin Glass, colourful vase with impressed Merlin mark on base
« on: September 16, 2024, 10:57:07 AM »
This was a surprise when I spotted it yesterday, not seen a vase from Merlin Glass before with an impressed mark on the base, likewise a vase with swirling colours like this from Merlin but they are mentioned by Andy McConnell in his book 20th Century Glass. My guess is that an impressed mark was used for a relatively short period after 1983 when Liskeard Glass was purchased by Liam Carey and renamed Merlin Glass. The vase is 15cm high, nice to see such a crisp mark, no doubting it's origin!

Rather lovely.  :)
It reminds me very much of early Alum Bay work - but with all the different colour combinations rather than the original limited palate.
Autumny and warm.

I like it too, the light was fading on Sunday night when I snapped the photos so it looks slightly duller than it might. Yes I got an Alum Bay vibe as well, along with a hint of Aurene from Isle of Wight Studio. However that might have been influenced by my reading that there was some crossover of personnel between IoWSG and Merlin.

The shape sort of echoes one of the Liskeard Knobblies but I may be reading too much into that as well...

Me too, a pleasing and broad range of colour.

There are a few other threads here on the board where the staff at Liskeard and Merlin get a mention too. In the link to the blog you posted most of the photos there are not showing, presumably due to the page being over a decade old. Run into a lot of that sort of thing recently along with dead links to pdf files.

Also this link here - shame about the old link not showing photographs anymore.

I like solid porcelain white or black door handles for our doors.  However for a wooden or decorative old cabinet upcycled painted a dark green I absolutely love this one:

Could make said piece into something really gorgeous.
