Hoglund?
« on: November 15, 2024, 03:42:47 PM »
Hi, any help appreciated if not Hoglund.

Description:

"This is a blue/green coloured glass carafe, mouth-blown some time in the 20th century but by whom we do not know. The carafe is in excellent condition for its age.  This means, of course, that it shows some age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with use.  The carafe has been blown in blue/green glass and is roughly square on two sides and a thinner oblong in profile.  It measures 11 cm (4.4 inches) across at its widest point, and 7 cm (2.8 inches) across the thinner sides.  The base carries a rough pontil mark.   The carafe is 15 cm (6 inches) in height. One of the broader sides carries a moulded circular embossed mark of a fox walking across grape vines.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration.
Lead glass weighing in at 695 g. (~ 1 lb. 8 oz.).  "

Thanks in anticipation, Neil

I have half a dozen Höglund and Vallien pieces, none of which have an unfinished pontil, and all of them have a clearly legible sig " Boda H" (or "V") .
But I can see where the attribution comes from.
I also have a set of dark green thickwalled pieces with a milk glass prunt and unfinished pontil, which I now assume is Polish.
So the jury is still out on this one.

:) It also has some features in common with Dartington, but again, the pontil scar isn't right, the image on the prunt isn't quite right and I have my doubts about the colour graduation. The jury is completely unconvinced.

Thank you both for the input.  I guess it is just going to be another of those pieces that I never get to attribute to somebody.  No worries.  Hopefully a similar piece will come up some where with an attribution.  I'll update if I find out anything.  Kind regards
