Etched block vase ID help
« on: February 17, 2025, 01:19:13 PM »
Hello everybody!
I need a little help identifying this vase.
It looks to be Murano but I have a feeling that it may not be the case.
It is 24cm tall and is made of brown and blue glass. The surface is matte as if sandblasted or acid etched.
Thanks in advance!
Dimi

I have seen one or two sommerso style vases with a satin finish over the years but they had a more rounded form. With no evidence I have them pegged as possibly Polish. The deep dark colours in yours have an Exbor feel too.

Hi John!
I think you may be just right about it being Polish.
Do you know which Polish makers made such glass?
Best regards
Dimi

Based on your suggestion I made some searches laterd to Exbor and indeed they made similar glass.
Here an example of one small vase.

Also I found similar colors + another top layer of clear glass in works of vases attributed to Pavel Hlava for Exbor.
Still a mystery but the direction seems right.
Best regards.

Another name to throw into the mix might be Hadeland. I know they made similar sommerso styles of vase in these colours, but I know nothing of any surface treatments there.
