A second failed to make it to the limited edition. To be a limited edition it must have the number engraved. Nice way to get a cheap, if less than perfect, example of a nice design. Charlton gives £350 for one in the edition. Only 6 1975 design of which 5 were limited edition of 1500 or more - the others were all abstracts.

Footnote: Very little work on the Scotlands Glass, catalogue in the last two months and I do have several thousand images still to upload. Work on organising and preparing the images has been going on and once the Glass Zoo is running I will be devoting some time each week to SG again.

   Just a quick post to clear one point up;at Caithness we do not have seconds of limited edition weights only of unlimited designs,all rejected limited weights are destroyed.

While your attention is on this subject Allan, could I please ask if this principle was also applied to limited edition Studio pieces?
I ask, because I bought a beautiful deep-footed charger, which I have seen listed as a limited edition (of 250) design. There is a fairly obvious "flaw" - the underside of the plate has a big sort of saggy bit, where the glass hangs down a bit, so it's uneven, not perfect. It is unmarked. I actually have another charger, same design, but different shape, also unmarked. I can't find any flaw, but I know that Caithness is incredibly fussy about perfection!
I would suspect that these are seconds. Should they have been destroyed?

Hi Frank and Sue,
                       I am really surprised that a limited edition has any "seconds",even in 1975.I know that some special commissions to other companies did have as a part of the deal,a clause allowing seconds to be sold in our own factory shops.This was to enable the client to get their weights at a cheaper price as we could recoup our reject losses.As this one was made in 1975,I can't say for sure if this was the case for it.The weight would have been made either in Wick or Oban as the Perth factory had not opened by then.
           Sue,could you put up pictures of the chargers so I can see them before commenting on them(glassware isn't really my area of expertise I'm afraid .I will try and find out for you though.Thanks.

Re the dragonfly weight that Frank linked to, didn't Leni recently sell the same design of paperweight, also labelled CIIG? (Leni's certainly wasn't any of the other dragonfly weights in Colin Terris' book). Shame she's not around!
