Glass / Optic Spiral Twist Vases - Age & Origin?
« Last post by Birkyc on Today at 10:22:05 AM »
Can anyone help put an age and origin on this pair of vases please?

23cm tall, maximum diameter 14.5cm, snapped off pontils, lots of movement marks on the bases.

Bohemia, Czechoslovakia, Czech Republic, Austria / Stölzle 18661 Vases.

I'd long suspected these were by Stölzle and here's the proof, P14. They are 20cms. and 25cms. tall. I've also seen the shorter version No.18694 on P.16.

Glass / Re: Frosted Victorian jug

Thanks, I remember reading that from Paul. The thing about counting the cuts on the stars seemed a bit unreliable as it would be so easy for manufacturers to do it differently. Maybe a smaller star would have fewer cuts etc. The Miller’s glass Antiques Checklist, Mark West (consultant), says it’s difficult dating 19th century jugs and the only applicable dating point he mentions is the style of the handle. Top down being the style before c.1870. I would guess 1850 to 1870.

It weighs 600g which doesn’t feel particularly light or heavy and nicely made, as you say.

Glass Trinket Sets / Re: Walpurgis?

Will keep an eye out the same on other pieces.

I've confused myself here, I should have said the Clayton Mayers catalogue c.1950's shows JEWELRAY The Sapphire Suite on page 105 which shows the blue candlestick above.

Actually I still got it wrong, the amber candlestick above is the exact shaped candlestick in the Jewelray advert. The blue candlestick above is the exact same as Dirks mint green candlesticks.

Thread with Jewelray catalogue pictures:

The Czech Stolzle 1930's Catalogue shows the 'Cut Glory Star' Tray on page 6 Pattern 18411 and Trinket Pot on Page 13 Pattern 18357. Other Jewelray items appear with the Trinket Pot like Jam/Honey Pot and Covered Butter.

I would say Stolzle almost certainly made the Jewelray items for Clayton Mayers.

Glass Trinket Sets / Re: Uranium Glass Ring Holder
« Last post by Jayne on Yesterday at 11:35:25 PM »
As Eugenie says, the ring holder appears to be from Mystery Set #145

https://www.glasstrinketsets.com/Gallery/thumbnails.php?album=150

but I also notice this ring holder with the 4 little feet appears often with Mystery Set #63

https://www.glasstrinketsets.com/Gallery/thumbnails.php?album=66

I suppose this may indicate Mystery #145 and #63 are the same manufacturer presumably Czech.

Mystery Set #063 now identified as Czech Stolzle from the 1930's Catalogue, the Trinket Pot is on Page 1 Pattern 18728. The Mystery Set #145 Tray appears too Pattern 18411 Page 6.

I'll add a photo with a pink version of the wavy rim type of ring holder/stand into the mix. :D

All of it looks really beautifully made: The handle, the cut decoration on the body, the merese and the star cut foot.  It looks to be very good quality.  Is it heavy as a matter of interest?
I've never really been sure about the star cut bases and whether they can indicate a time frame - however 10 years ago or so Paul made some comments on this thread about 16 point star indicating 1830 and discussed how the star was cut.  Interesting but as I say, I'm not sure how indicative it is of age as I don't know anything about this area and I don't know if info has changed in the meantime since then.
