The candle-light has obscured bits, Rosie - the rooster is sitting in a flower - but it also seems to have a human arm, and there's weird caterpillar or pea pod under it.
What you're seeing as "legs" are the straggly remains of what would have been the bud casing.

- this piece is so fantasmagorical your interpretation would fit in with it perfectly - it simply doesn't happen to be the correct one, because of the obscured bits.
