I too think that this looks very much like Mats Jonasson.

I think the signature reads: RK 99162 LCMJ

RK would be Royal Krona and MJ Mats Jonasson.

I guess this was made when Målerås was part of the Royal Krona group.

Hi,

Please note that this has nothing to do with FM Konstglas/Marcolin, Ronneby.

Mats Jonasson/Målerås use this kind of numbering 99xxx for this type of
paperweights. Please see this link for reference:
http://www.someonespecial.com/cgi-bin/someone/jonassonbirds02.html
example: Wren, Paperweight  Style #: 99203

So everything points towards Mats Jonasson and Royal Krona.

regards,

Ingela   :)

I would agree that it is a Mats Jonasson piece. He is still, in my opinion, the best at producing accurate representaions of wild life in this form. I am 90% sure that the bird is a Golden Plover - which certainly spends its summer time all over the Scandavian landscape.

The shape of the piece does not seem to fit with his latest work and I cannot find this particular item in any web search, so perhaps it is an earlier one - and maybe Martyn is correct with Kosta.

Perhaps it would be simplest to contact him directly viw his website at
http://www.matsjonasson.com

When I raised a query with him several years ago, I received a quick and informative reply.

Hi,

If it is signed Kosta then it is Kosta..... If it is signed RK then it is Royal Krona.  ;)

Målerås was part of the Royal Krona group 1975 - 1977.
The Royal Krona group: Skruf, Gullaskruf, Åseda, Björkshult and Målerås

---------------------------------

Royal Krona has been discussed earlier on GMB.
I remember that Ivo had a query some time back about "Royal Krona ladies".
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17360.msg100289.html#msg100289
" One of them is signed (RK########MJ) and has the Royal Krona sticker - so
I know it is Matts Jonasson from 1975-1977. "

---------------------------------

The Kosta period is after Royal Krona but before Mats Jonasson took over Målerås in 1981.

So I still think this paperweight is by Mats Jonasson/Målerås (as part of the
Royal Krona group) and that it dates back to the mid 1970's.

Ingela

I thought Jonasson was at Kosta circa 1969-75 so before RK?

That is correct but I was talking about the period after RK.

Do you know when Mats Jonasson started making this type of paperweights?
Were they made at Kosta before he returned to Målerås in 1975?

To update on this, I contacted the Mats Jonasson website and received an answer today.

This is one of the earliest Mats Jonasson products, introduced around 1980, no longer in their collection but Mats has confirmed that it is one of his products. Thanks for all your help everyone.
