Antique Clichy - but roses?
« on: November 24, 2008, 02:22:14 PM »

I am sure that this paperweight is a Clichy, but where are the roses mentioned? Is it my eyesight?  It would be unusual to get roses in a sodden snow Clichy.

I don't see any roses either. It would be odd for the seller to know it's a Clichy but not know what a rose cane looks like.
I collect Scottish and Italian paperweights and anything else that strikes my fancy.

It's possible that general info about similar Clichy weights was derived from an auction catalogue or a general antiques guide or simply a third party. Add that to general, but not detailed, knowledge of Clichy roses and it could be an easy matter to believe that various green-and-pink or green-and-white millefiori canes are "roses".

But for a better understanding perhaps somebody could ask the seller?
