Mysterious glass object
« on: March 26, 2009, 12:07:07 PM »
I'm looking for some help.......the attached photos show one of countless glass objects, all the same, found in the back garden. Does anybody have a clue of their use or purpose please?

Can you manage a clearer pic, these are a bit fuzzy? Where is your garden located? Also a decription and size might help with an ID:-)

Thanks, I've tried a different camera which gives a clearer image. The object is 24mm in dia and 12mm high.

Electrical insulators for overhead lines are often made of glass but no idea if yours are insulators.

They are so tiny 2.4 cm x 1.2 cm. I had a few ideas until I saw how tiny they are. Do you have a local historical society. Might be from some past factory. If you find out if there were any old factories close to you that might help. You might need time team:-)Are you finding any metal rods or other stuff where you find these?

Just googled Preston and industry and it looks like there must have been a lot of spinning and weaving so perhaps they are some sort of attachment again I would recommend a local history buff:-)Your local uni might have an idea too. Please let me know if you find out:-)
