Topic: Large multicolour vase

Hi I bought this rather large vase on a car boot today.Its 15 and a half inches tall and 7 inches at the widest point. Cased in clear glass, mostly white, the pattern goes all the way round to the top. I paid £10 for it after a bit of haggling. My son thinks I paid £9.50 too  much!!!! I think its Murano but not being an expert I have no real idea, can't find anything like it anywhere. I like it anyway!! Any info much appreciated., age etc.   Thanks Cheryl.

Hi Cheryl... In my opinion it looks far eastern maybe Taiwanese or Chinese as for age 1980s seems about right. £10 seems abit steep but if you like it thats what counts. Paul

Thankyou for the reply Paul, Its a bit loud so to speak, the colours remind me of one of my Murano fish (also ugly but I like them too!!) Perhaps my son was right then, 50p would have been better price. Bloke wanted more than £10 for it.  Cheers Cheryl

Hi Cheryl thats just jogged my memory.. a lot of the so called Murano fish were copied and produced in Romania in their thousands could be another possible source for your car boot vase. Paul

HI Paul, I know its off the subject of my vase but is there anyway to tell a real murano fish or a copy, is it mainly colour?  Thanks cheryl

Its very difficult Cheryl and unless you find labelled items you can never be 100% sure. I have handled two items together one labelled Murano the other presumably Romanian which was different in colour and certainly quality wise not as good. Sorry not to be of much help but it does pay to watch out for labelled ones.. there are plenty out there still and being as popular as they were in the 1950s right through to the 1970s means they had a long production run. Thanks for your replies Paul, as you say there are still a lot of these fish around. I have about 20 on top of my kitchen units. I just buy good condition ones in the nicer colours. Thanks again cheryl

HI I go to loads of car boots around Norfolk looking for glass, lots of people tell you what they are selling is Murano because its the only maker they know. I bought a lovely dish today sold as Murano but I found one on ebay listed as Holmgaard, I'll put it on when I get time to be sure. I once bought a green Walther Greta vase for 75p the bloke reckoned was Lalique!!!!! Thats the good thing about this site, I can find out what my 'Murano' really is!!!     Cheers cheryl
