Hi there
another little boot sale find, picked this up for 50p, it was completely covered in candle wax but could just see that there was something on the base.. it has what appears to be three/ maybe four letters 1874 (maybe 1974, but looks much more like 1874 so doubt its the date ;D) then two/three more letters...ah hang there maybe a different formation as there are commars between letters
at a pushed guess?
oz n, 1874, n3             07,h,1874,n3
I am guessing its scandinavian, orrefors, kosta something along that line?
Im really not great with the scandinavian glass, so any help would be much apreciated
The vase is round in shape with a 6 sided opening at the top, with an interanal lobed optic effect following the shape of the opening, quite heavy surface wear to the base stands at 8.5cms tall, 8.5 diameter weight 455g heavy for size.
Also jsut for fun more than anything me and my partner are having a 'heated' debate as to the bird on the front..i think its a phoenix, he says its a bird of paradise..what do you think??
many thanks

Hi Chelly,

http://www.great-glass.co.uk/glass%20notes/swedish.htm

It is Orrefors. If it is an H it will probably be by Edward Hald.

Nice piece  :D

If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Hi: It is definitely Hald and it was designed before WWII. Prosaic me thought it was goose, but, on looking more closely, it could be something more exotic.
