If you go to one of Andy McConnell's 'Study Days' in September, you can ask him - he's the author of the Decanter Book and is their glass expert on the Roadshow.  His place is in Rye, East Sussex so not a million miles from you.  ;)

Thanks Max, I might just do that, thanks for the info.  I also have a few pieces of sam herman glass that i wouldnt mind finding out a little more about, given to my father in the 60s when he worked at the RCA.  Anyhow thanks for all your help. No doubt I'll be posting something else again soon.  :D

Max talking about the stopper has jogged something in my tiny brain  , i have a vision of a large disc or lozenge stopper with that pattern from the lower part of the decanter repeated on it ,maybe you are right and i may have seen one in the past .

Now you've said it, it rings a bit of a bell with me too.  I keep getting glimpses of it in my mind's eye...then it slips away...very annoying!  I'm seeing a ball stopper with strapping.

Thanks all, interesting thoughts. Although the stopper does seem to fit really quite well, it wouldnt surprise me if they were a marriage, as the stopper is very reminiscent of some whitefriars stoppers I have seen.

 :)
