Amber glass wedges - what were they used for?
« on: March 15, 2010, 12:26:48 PM »
Hello everyone,
I was given these 'chunks' of glass at the weekend and wondered if anyone knew what they were used for? They are slightly different sizes and measure approx. 4 1/2 inches on the longest edge and approx. 2 1/2 inches high.
Many thanks
Hil :)

Doorstops? They look pretty strong.

This suggestion may be a bit wide of the mark but how about window wedges? For jamming sliding windows open, I remember my Gran using small rubbery wedges to hold the windows up on her Ford Anglia

Look most like door wedges to me.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
My first thought was bookends however they are not really big enough or heavy enough to hold more than a few lightweight paperbacks together.

I think the 'thin edge of the wedge' is too thick to use them as door wedges.

I tried a shoe on them as per Ivo's suggested use and that sat quite nicely  :)

I think too big and heavy for window wedges and would look a bit ungainly for table use as in spoon rest.

They are a bit boring to use as paperweights  >:D

Maybe just a bit of left over glass at the end of day :pb:

I appreciate your suggestions. Many thanks

Hil :)

Some of the edges look to have been rounded and polished, useful for laying out fabric perhaps? Snooker tables, sail making?

Just wild guesses.
