Colourful vase with millefiori decoration for Id please
« on: April 01, 2010, 04:13:18 AM »

This is a large colourful vase decorated with marvered in millefiori slices.   Probably a third world TK Maxx special.

Any ideas on maker, dates, &c.

Thanks for your interest.

Bernard:

I can't see it well enough to say one way or another, but it looks like it might be close enough to the real thing to investigate further. Some questions: What's the finish? What colour is the glass behind the millefiori? Colour inside the vase? What's the base like? A straight on picture, a picture from the vase opening from a bit above and a shot of the base would go a long way to putting us in a position to offer some suggestions. The classic pieces I'm thinking about are by Ermanno Toso for Fratelli Toso in the 50's, but others have continued the tradition, including Vittorio Ferro. Have you found a cave with Murano treasures in it? (Your other post with the Venini pieces.)

And if possible the location of this cave would be wonderful! Share some of the treasure around!  ;D

Are you sure it is glass? To hold it at such an angle would require incredible strength  :24:

Yes, you got that one!

Here's another view:

So, whose hands?   And, for completeness, and for my benefit, what are the details of the book that shows a photograph of this vase?   I forgot to make a note at the time.  :spls:
