Hand Signed Glass Angel - ID = Shirley Elford, Canada
« on: December 07, 2010, 12:20:24 AM »
Hello everyone,  I have started collecting Glass Angels now, and bought this one a little while ago.

It is quite stylised and has twists of colours running through the centre.
It is hand signed to the base, and is 14.5 cm.s tall.
Does anyone know the signature, as I would love to know who made it and what country it originated in?
Many thanks for any help you are able to give.
Rosie.

   Guessing here:

Could it be SHIRLEY ELFORD - Canadian Glass blower that specialized in making Angels .
She has made over 8000 Glass angels in the past 12 years.  She was also the designer for the Glass Award for the JUNO AWARDS (music) here in Canada.

http://followtinasjourney.blogspot.com/2010/10/pocket-angel.html

IF this is her, You might just have a Special piece of from a Canadian Glassblower   and read/meet (in the Photos) the very *Special lady* that did this.

I think it might bring a tear to ones Eye..... :'(  She is now gone, due to Ovarian Cancer

So not sure IF this is the person -- but kinda *might* be ???????????????

 :X:  If you scroll down to about *half ways down* -- you will see what looks like your very Angel;

Well done Rose, clever girl you are! :kissy: What a fascinating story about this lady, thank you.

Thanks Anne/Rosieposie:
Lucked out googling here.  When Anne mentioned that it looked like Shuly, I wondered IF it was Shirley (as that is also my deceased Moms name).  Then tried that, and a few other last name combos -- and Bingo!

Kinda nice to have a *lady* Glass-blower item here on the board (and being a Canadian person) as I learned something new too.  I will now be on the lookout for an Angel done by her.

:'(    My Mom died of Ovarian Cancer also......Nasty disease.

So I think RosiePosie should feel honored about her PW Angel.  It is a Woman that did it, and the story behind it -- and brings to light that Nasty disease that effects Women.

I hope you treasure it Rosie !!

Oh Rose,  it IS one of Shirley's Angels ...Thank you so much for your help
All the way from Canada.....what a long flight she made to find me!  She is beautiful, and now is all the more special because I have all that wonderful information.

I read in the article that Sir Elton John even had one of her Angel -- maybe you have his ???  Maybe he was downsizing....??

Glad I was able to help on this one

This lovely Angel has been so special to me and so I read with great sadness that Shirley Elford, her maker, passed away earlier this month.

An announcement was made here:

http://www.thespec.com/news/local/article/624983--public-visitation-for-shirley-elford

An amazing glass artist and one who drew so many people to her. Now pain free and at peace.

I will always be grateful to you Rose for identifying her Angel for me..... a million hugs to you.

I make no apologies for showing the picture of my Angel again.
Rosie.

So sad to hear, Rosie, and thanks for sharing the news with us. I've adding a Glass News link on the board as well: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,44794.0.html.

Did you spot that the newspaper wants to hear from angel owners as well?
