Unknown (German?) label on solifleur - any idea?
« on: March 13, 2011, 11:26:08 AM »
I've bought this solifleur a while ago, it probably came from Germany. I'm trying to identify the label. It has similarities to the Peill & Putzler label, but I've never heard of a variation on that, it might be a coincidence.

Does anyone know what it is, or has seen other pieces of glass with this label on it?

Hi Astrid
I suspect it to be a wholesaler´s label on a ´Marsberger Glas´ vase, but - just a hunch...  :)

Could be - the top looks a bit Marsberger, but the glass is patterned, it has little stripes all over it both on the front, back and sides. Haven't seen that sort of thing with Marsberger pieces so far. I'll see if I can make a close-up picture, maybe it's a clue...

... yep, not untypical for MG vases. The general shape reminds me of another design with a big hole
in the middle.

Some close-up pictures. The finish of the surface, also on the base, is not the same as other Marsberger pieces in my collection, which are smoother. That wouldn't mean it isn't of course... but just enough to make me look further.

It doesn't have a particular high quality feel - but I couldn't resist buying because of the unknown label :)

Thanks for the additional pictures. I must admit I misunderstood you and thought you meant the lines,
which occur where the string of glass folds while filling the mould.
Still think it might be MG though, say - 17% less likelihood...  ;D

I have two of the MG-with-holes-solifleurs. They don't feel the same to me. They look to me like better quality pieces, but that might also be because of the rather rough finish on the other piece. Oh well, if it's MG, I'm sure one with an MG label will turn up eventually. If not, I hope we can find this particular label on other pieces to give more clues.
