Still doesn't give me an old vibe. Is the indented circle on the base part of the moulding or actually ground? If it's ground is it shiny (or at least very finely ground) or matte?

Looks grounds down as by a wheel but not flush, indented, smoothish but not glossy like the rest of it, and dull, like foggy.

I have seen items like this at Pier I stores in the USA. I agree that this is from China, quite heavy and recently made.

Well, as you can imagine, I've looked at a lot of glass handbags in the last few weeks. 

Prices from GBP 4 and 9 for quite obviously new ones, GBP 70 for 'art glass' ones.
