Iridescent green Urn shaped vase, cased
« on: April 14, 2011, 09:20:53 AM »
Hi all
Trying to pin down a maker on this one, i have no idea where to even start..
It stands at 16cm tall, 13cm rim diameter, 9cm foot diameter. The inside layer is green (quite shiny glass) cased in clear with an iridised finish.
The base has a slight concave, which is smooth on the very outer part, then around 1/3 of the way in is more rough to the touch and a visable difference where its been finished off (still quite smooth, heat treated and polished maybe?). The very outer edge shows pretty good wear.
The rim is polished and bevelled to the outer edge
any ideas?
many thanks
michelle

Hi there -- Is that ever Pretty!!  I like it, and am

I do not know who made it, but as a wild, wild guess -- I think it might be Czech ??? and a quality piece (maybe) -- but this is just me guessing here, but I would have  bought it too.

 ;)

It´s a really lovely piece, Michelle! The irridescence reminds me a bit of Kralik´s mother of pearl - although
I´ve never seen one in ?

I would say Bohemian for sure.....  The exterior is like Mother of Pearl by Kralik, but Welz also did similar iridescent exterior finishes...  The color is delightfully unusual for either house, but would lean me a little more toward Welz than Kralik.... The exterior bevel on the rim would lean me towards Kralik....... Could also be an unknown house...... we may never know.

The answer would likely come with the shape....  if it can be identified in a more recognizable and distinct decor associated with a specific known house....

Great piece.....

Many thanks Craig. will keep searching and hopefully come up with something concrete on a maker.
