Bubble Bud Vase with swirling colours inclusion????
« on: August 13, 2011, 06:43:23 PM »
Ive seen quite a few bubble bud vases but never one with this inclusion looks like a miniature whirlwind going off in there.
Approx 6inches. Did Dominick Labino ever do bud vases? Any idea who made it? Or just chinese?

Hi,
Could you get a picture of the bottom of the base to show how it is finished please?

I think you can rule out Labino.  I see why you ask, but I don't think he ever produced unsigned bud vases.

Yes, i know Labino would not really have produced this but if he had the inclusion may have looked like this. It just doesnt look like what is normally done to a small bud vase by most makers that have produced them.  Still not seen any like this.

How is the bottom of the base finished please?  It may help in eventually identifying it.

It is an unusual bud vase. You're best chance of i.d. is to show "bubbles' a picture of the base, as she  reqeusted. If you click on her website at the bottom of her posts, you'll see she has a very large collection of bud vases and is very knowledgeable about them.  Unusual ones do turn up. Here's a Harrtil one I bought a couple of weeks ago.

Good luck.

It looks like the base may be ground flat, but I can't be sure and I can't tell if it's shiny or matt. Bubbles needs a picture just of the base taken at a slight angle (not from the side or face on) to be able to help.

Thank you CultureVulture that last picture shows the detail perfectly.
It is unusual.  Originally my thoughts were that it could have been Chinese or possibly Czech, however because of the completely flat and polished base I think probably neither of those.  The only bud vases I have come across with that type of base are:
 1) any of the Scandinavian countries, but the colours are unusually bright for those areas.  Or
 2) Japanese.  Those colours are also 'right' for that area, so that is a possibility.

If you could let me know the circumference of the base around the widest part it may help me to eliminate another possibility, that of Hong Kong. As these have a similar look.

I will continue to investigate.
Cheers, Pat

Thankyou the circumference at the widest part of the base is 14cm or 5.5 inches.
The shape of the base is very much like those in your picture, Bubbles
