Topic: 1930s desert bowls Bagley?

I found these (have a small set) whilst looking for something else.

I can't see any maker's mark.

Base has pressed design and ground off rim.

Hunch was Bagley ...

thanks. what was the range of sizes in this shape? Does the pattern # change with the size?

The number is for the design, which is called Carnival. Sometimes they are marked with the registration number as well 849118. Yours may be uranium glass, but the green isn't always. There is a sugar bowl, a milk jug, underplates, a biscuit barrel (sometimes wrongly sold as a vase without the lid), a vase, a butter dish, a cheese dish and the dessert set (6 small, one large bowl). I think that's it. Wayne has almost everything. I have the cheese dish and underplate on my site. Colours: blue, amber, green and clear. Clear is occasionally decorated.

I see quite a bit of it but don't always buy it. What do collectors look for other than Uranium?

I bought this thinking it was but don't think this is uranium glass as it doesn't glow under UV. But I have never successfully tested uranium glass so don't really know what to look for.

I don't know what collectors look for. Uranium glass should give you a really bright green glow when you shine a UV light on it in daylight.

No, though they do contain a very slightly higher proportion of UV than ordinary bulbs. You need a special UV torch or keyring light (LED or strip).

OK, I'll have a look while I'm out today.

I looked for a UV torch today but couldn't find one. I did find another set of these bowls though with the big trifle dish. The shop coincidentally had a UV light for checking notes. Bingo! U-RAIN-I-UM.

So I now have 10 desert bowls, 1 trifle bowl (the big one), and what I think is a sugar bowl.

Now I have to dig out the dressing table set I found earlier this year and boxed away because I thought it wasn't uranium. now am excited that it could be. As it's a full set I'm expecting it to be worth a few quid.  :chky:
