dimpled amber coloured vase
« on: May 09, 2012, 01:04:55 PM »
Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could help we identify this piece, it is 21cm tall and 5.5cm dia. The glass is an amber / caramel colour with a white inner layer, the dimples stand proud on the outside. I actually collect West German pottery, but this piece recently caught my eye at an antique fair.
I thought I would be able to ID it on the web, but am not having much luck - any hints at likely makers would be very useful to aid my search.  Would really like to know maker / age

Thankyou !!
David

Hi David, welcome to the GMB, looks like it could be related to these "Dalek" vases from Japan:

Hello Wayne

Thankyou for your reply, and the link, it seems an excellent match, esp the way the base is formed. A very big thankyou as I have been scratching my head over this for weeks and had not even considered Japan as a possible origin. A googling I will go !

Welcome to the board. If you need any more help, we really need a picture of the whole item and the base as well

Hello,

I did try to upload a pic of the whole item, but I think the image was too large, I had tried to keep the images low res, but they were still too large, hence the reason fo adding the picture of the base as a second post. I can still add a pic of the whole item if it is of any interest to any one, although the piece does seem a close match for the Japanese 'Dalek' vases.

You can add up to four pictures per post at about 120 kb each. The best way is to take high-res photos and then resize in a picture editing programme. I first crop and then resize the cropped image so that the maximum dimension is about 700 pixels. That usually works and it means we don't get to see a great big fuzzy picture with no detail.

It could be Friedrich, especially if you bought it close to Germany. it certainly fits the combination of white interior, brightly coloured exterior and a pattern on the outside.

Have a look at this thread and the link that Dirk gives to some Friedrich vases: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=43077.0
