Tadpole decanter green & clear glass
« on: December 02, 2013, 05:51:45 AM »
I am hoping to find some help identifying a decanter I came across. It is a clear decanter with applied green tadpoles along the side. The stopper is a steeple like stopper that is green and clear. The bottom has a smooth polished pontil. I have already been informed that it is likely not Kralik, but could be Czech. My knowledge base is not in this type of glass, but when I saw the decanter I knew I wanted it. Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction and help me determine if my instincts that said this was a good decanter were right or not.

I had to cut the photo in two to fit as I am using my phone. If needed I can try to post a full photo later.

Odds are against it, but carefully check the bottom for a tiny (and I do mean tiny) circular Libbey signature. Doug Nash when he came over from Tiffany in 1931 designed Tadpole pieces for Libbey. Pic of one I had is shown.

Unfortunately I did not notice a signature on the bottom. I did notice that the polished pontil was not a full circle like most but rather a ring with a smaller unpublished circle inside. Not sure if this would mean anything to anyone or not.

Please could you post a clear photograph of the base including the pontil mark.  Often the way the base is finished can help point to one maker or another :)

And welcome :)
