Unidentified glass 1- please help
« on: January 30, 2014, 07:13:21 PM »
I have recently got some pretty and I think good pieces of glass but can't identify them, there are no marks, signatures, labels anything that could help to identify.

That looks a bit Gozo-ish.  :)
I would certainly be looking at one of the Maltese glassmakers.  :)

Thanks for the thought, it has a sort of textured matt finish rather than a glossy one, I was hoping it might be a studio piece, I will investigate Gozo

That would be absolutely consistent with Gozo. Looking at it more closely, I can see patches where there are round shapes... I reckon it is most likely Gozo. :)
This is their website - you may have to trawl a bit. I had a go, but gave up without too much of a fight.  :-[

How big is it? Quite a lot of Gozo's production is small in size.

This looks more like Lesley Clarke to my eye, especially the heavy matt finish: http://www.wrenfineart.co.uk/salt/nlcfs01.htm

That is new information, and a new maker to me, John.  :)
Looks like a good possibility too.
Thanks for telling about her and showing examples. Particularly interesting that she's Norman Stuart-Clarke's partner and is self-taught "by example".
There's a lovely feeling about two artists who share both their lives and work. :)

That would make perfect sense, I knew I had seen similar before and living not a million miles from St Erth, I think you've cracked it. Thank you everyone for your suggestions  :D

I have only handled two of her pieces (one vase, one perfume - sorry no photos), each was complex and fluid with a distinctly matt finish, it took me ages to decipher her signature.
