Blenko vase with spirals
« on: January 31, 2014, 11:33:52 PM »

BLENKO VASE. Amber color with clear applied clear spiral ribs.

Hello, I found this yesterday at a small antique mall that almost never has anything I collect. I showed it too my wife and she said “YUCK!”. I would rather have that. But she agreed that the spiral is hand applied. The lady walked over and said that is Blenko! I know it is because she brings in Blenko. As She was wrapping it she said it had been in about three weeks.

I really liked it and the price so I took it home. A no brainier! She said at lunch=where do we have any place left too put it? Yeah really!

I am looking to confirm if Blenko and a pattern number or approximate year. I know that their glass is hand blown, and the size and workmanship tells me it probably was not a production piece they would likely send to a dealer.

Height 9 ¾ inches        Width 7 inches
Base 3 1/8th  inch  Pontil mark  1 ½ inch
Mouth 4 1/8th  by 2 ¾ inch
Circumference ,   app. 21 inches   With tallest spiral 23 inches  Widest spiral  5/8th inch

Personally I have never seen Blenko do this type of vase...though I am no expert on Blenko.
This piece may get more responses in the "Glass Discussion" page.

I'm not familair with much Blenko myself, but this looks awfully like contemporary Chinese to me.   ???
