Studio art glass Turquoise iridescent vase help please
« on: February 12, 2014, 05:07:05 PM »
Hello there can anyone help me with this beautiful piece of glass, it has a lot of age wear to the base and the design on the outer  surface of the glass is thin with a very thick clear interior, it's 4 1/4 inches in height and about the same in width, regards Chris.

I think this might be Isle of Wight Studio Glass from the Woodland range, around 1995.

Quite a hard to find range from Isle of Wight Studio Glass, Woodland, made in two colours this being Silver Birch, Woodland made in 1995 and 1996 only.

But there are some one-off/trial jugs around in different colour combinations, but still Woodland.
I have one, and I know somebody who has 2 others.

A scarce pattern to find, I think it didn't last because the amount of work required didn't make it economically viable.
(Although IoWSG did deliberately make ranges fairly limited, in order to appeal to a collector's market. A strategy which had proved to work well for Moorcroft.)

It would have had a label and been bought (from new) with an official presentation box and card.  :)

It is a lot of age-related wear for something just 10 or so years old!

There is one thing that's beginning to make part sense with this age wear, the more unusual and colourful a piece of glass the more it gets picked up looked at and put down, well at least it's a theory i'm working on.  :)

Alternatively, something can be treasured for donkey's years, shut away in a cabinet and have no age-related wear at all, despite being 200+ years old.  ;)

I have discovered that whan a piece only sits on a tiny edge of the base, the age-related wear can be too fine to see, but you can still feel it with the tip of your fingernail. :)

That's true,I  found a candlestick yesterday looks brand new but i think it's 1830's no age wear at all, sitting on it's very tips, my cut glass collection is getting out of hand, i love the quality the workmanship and just how cheap it is to get something thats 200 years old for 20p

We used to have a lovely lady here who was in the habit of licking and/or biting glass as part of her method in id-ing things. Even that does have its place.  8)

You do have to be careful not to bite hard. ;)
