Can anyone say whos base mark this is?
« on: February 13, 2014, 06:29:08 PM »
I'm looking for help in solving another of my glass mysteries. I acquired this heavy flint glass controlled bubble vase thinking at first glance it was Whitefriars. When I looked closer the base had this engraved or sandblasted compass style marking on an otherwise smooth polished base. Does anyone recognise it. Thanks for looking.

I wonder if that's a company logo of some sort it, reminds me of the Festival of Britain emblem, just a wild guess by the way, regards Chris.

It does rather look like something which has been commissioned to be put there, rather than an official company name, I agree with you Chris.

The glass itself does look rather Scandinavian.

If only all companies , if this is what it is, would do likewise with engravings. The number of pieces I have seen ruined with company names etc... ::)

Could be Varig? Or another airline or shipping comp. The glass may be from Atlantis.

Thanks for all your help. At least I can stop worrying about there being a base mark I had never seen before.  Any ideas who the vase came from?

My immediate thought for the vase was Kastrup.  The flat base is feasible.  Try trawling through www.hardernet.dk for the designers Michael Bang, Jacob Band and Per Lutken.  If you are unable to find a match try sending a polite email to Peter Harder himself.

Thanks once again for your observations. As someone who has lived as a “glass freak outsider” I find it amazing that people like you who take the trouble to help. And then I go and unintentionally mislead you. The base is not flat but a shallow polished concave . Does that change your view? Thanks too for the link to Hardernet.  I find it no trouble trawling through but as yet to find my vase. Regards

As i said i think the item is from Atlantis, Portugal. Flat or concave makes lot a lot of difference.
