New Zealand vase. ID = Katie Brown
« on: February 17, 2014, 11:27:13 AM »
Hi,
I've had this pink vase for quite a while. It has several pieces of info around the base including "New Zealand". The sandblasted nature of the vase makes it very difficult to photograph the base lettering but I think I can make out the name Jackie or possibly Katie but little else. The vase is quite large at 7" tall and heavy. I wonder if any of our New Zealand experts can put me on the right track please as I was hoping to list it on Fleabay.
Thanks,
Bryn

Wow! I think I can answer my own question. Katie Brown. I did a google search on New Zealand glass  for Jackie that proved fruitless but Katie brought up Katie Brown. I googled Katie Brown New Zealand glass and found a very similar vase to mine in blue. This vase had more in the way of swirls as decoration but there was no denying the similarity. It was retailing for $380 + tax. Very pleasing.

Yes, it certanly looks like the work of Katie Brown of Whanganui. Katie gained her Diploma in Glass in Whanganui in 1999, and after a period working with Josh Simpson in Massachusetts set up Chronicle Glass in Whanganui (with Lyndsay Patterson) in 2003.

Thanks Stuart.
To think I've been trying to find that out for months. Now I know the answer the inscription on the base seems as clear as day!!
