Berluze vase
« on: June 07, 2014, 06:26:48 PM »
It is with great delight to say that I am the owner or as the previous owner (helenej board member) aptly said custodian, of the Berluze vase.
This vase is an enormous 20 inches tall, by far the tallest of all Monart vase and one of the only know two.
The last picture shows two of my biggest and my smallest Monart.

Thanks Keith, ever since I first seen it in the YSART GLASS book about seven year ago, I thought it was fantastic piece of art glass.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I did wonder, but I also wondered if it might have been Gary Millerart.

Mr. "I have no money  - can't buy any more Monart for a while" - that's no holidays now for at least the next 3 years  ;) ;) ;)

looks like I really need to take a trip north of the border now! When are you opening the museum of Monart  ;D You must be outdoing Perth museum now.

Nice one Gary  ;)

A unique and extremely rare piece of Monart like this vase does not come on the market very often, holidays can wait.
Below are images of the mould used by Monart to achieve the coloured striped effect.

I am considering the possibility in the future, of loaning the vase for a predetermined amount time to Perth Museum to display in their new glass exhibition Dazzle. For the time being I am going to enjoy displaying at home.

I can't believe how huge it is - it's quite difficult to imagine without seeing it in front of you.
I wonder how many went wrong before getting one to work!

I do admit it's size did surprise me when I took it out of the box, seen photos of it before but when you see it for real it's amazing.

Salvador was a master glassblower and though the shape maybe technically difficult it would well within Salvadors skills to get it right.

Hi Gary, just to settle my pedantic nature, could you please confirm the number of stripes on the vase.

The image in the Ysart Glass book (and the ysartglass website) show only eight clearly visible stripes on the one side. That suggests the dip mould would have had either sixteen or eighteen "ribs". But your photo shows a mould with twenty "ribs".

The vase has twenty stripes. Also I have a Monart lampshade with 18 stripes and a Monart ashtray with 16 stripes. The Ysart's would had other sizes of moulds.
The mould shown is from Perth Museum Moncrieff collection and is the only one they have.
