Whitefriars / Caithness No 7.
« on: August 15, 2015, 08:53:43 PM »
Hello,

I recently bought a small oddment of a 20th century glass collection as I wanted one of the paperweights among it to add to my collection of rare British paperweights.

I am finding it very difficult to research a few of the items in the collection, as I have found the same objects to be attributed to several different makers / nationalities, mostly czech or murano and I am unsure which to believe and it has been difficult to find a definitive answer.

I am hoping there will be some assured expertise here to help me to identify these vases with more certainty.

Definitely Whitefriars: check the date cane - the first "Caithness Whitefriars" weights were issued in 1981. Your's is most likely 1979, though the image is too small to read it.

Is this a vase or a paperweight, as I cannot tell from the photos. If a weight then it should be in the Glass Paperweights forum. Please let me know, and I can move it for you if needed. Ta!

This large owl weight (The large Owl at Night) was not made in large numbers, so is a sought after weight - if you are looking to sell, that is.
Very nice set-up . Two sister weights are the Large butterfly and the large Bumble Bee - both are equally scarce.

Hi vintageartglass,
I have been asked to contact you because I am based in the UK and my friend MILLEFIORI is very interested in your Owl paperweight. Millefiori is based in the USA and feels it would be easier for us to discuss this in the same country.

I cannot send you a private message at the moment as I keep getting an error message.

If you are looking to sell, let me know and perhaps I can help.

Regards,

Thanks Chris,  I see that the new member hasn't attached an e-mail yet. Hence the error message. It would be better if the message explained why, instead of just "error - you are not allowed to send messages".

Cheers

The error message is correct. You aren't allowed to send private messages as that facility is disabled on the board. Members can choose to receive emails via the board but that is a different facility
