Iridescent blown - Holland, Belgium, Bohemia?
« on: April 11, 2016, 07:18:10 AM »
I have several blown iridescent pieces with an unknown provenance. I know that some of it has to be Dutch from the 1920s, one lookalike has been identified as Kralik (not in the pix); rumour has it that some is by Doyen, but I could not get confirmation of this - so the rest of the answer is default to Bohemia?

Some guidance, please.

The top one is different?  because it appears to have a fire polished rim not a cut and polished rim?
If so, I'd take that one out of the mix.

The bottom three pics might conceivably belong together in terms of origin on first glance.

Does Belgian glass have cut and polished rims?

Perhaps Ruckl (v. little information) and Welz (Craig)might be worth investigating?

The thing is, all finishes are different. The last ones have a black enamel rim, others cut and polished, others rough. The colours range from clear, via various sorts of green, to amethyst and cobalt blue.
Both Welz and Rückl do not seem to have made glass shapes - just lots of colour. Not seen any iridescent finish on blown glass from them.
Doyen I do not believe because they tend to have a wavy rim.

Here's a few more.

I had assumed Czech for this one but it could of course be from a n other country...

The iridescence does not show up well in this photo.

Germany maybe for the high sheeny iridescent finish pieces in blue?
And have you checked Hungary?  it's very difficult to find anything, but I am convinced that quite a few pieces we put down to Bohemian may be Hungarian (certainly there are some bechers I see that I am fairly convinced are Parad)

The clear ones with the iridescence - have you checked out
Schreiber and Neffen?  they did that clear iridescent finish iirc.

Ivo, yes Welz did do an iridescent finish (as far as I know the two large beehive ish type ridged vases I have are Welz) and they did make ridged 'shapes' as far as I know, not just stunning colours:)

For Hungarian glass, then Atilla is one person to ask. I'll prod him.

Chances are very very very slim that this type of glass was made in Hungary.

Ivo is right, I don't think it is from Hungary. The only factory where a bit similar glass was made is Tokod.
