Sowerby Pattern 1374 Queens's Ivory Ware
« on: September 14, 2016, 02:10:59 AM »
A recent find is this Sowerby No. 1374 "tray" in their Queen's Ivory ware.  It is 9.625" long, 6.125" wide and 1.5" tall.  Registered February 8, 1879

this is a match for Sowerby Registration 332054  ..................   there were four Registrations on the 8th February 1879  -  Nos. 332051, 52, 53 and 54.
Unfortunately, this is one of the purple pencil drawings, and lacks sharpness and definition, but think that the impressions of peacock feathers on the interior can be seen, although it appears that the other ornamentation around the edging is absent on the original drawing  -  I could be wrong, and will need to edit my Kew photo to be sure.
Will post the pix later this morning.

Edited to add  ........   three pix of the same Kew image  -  tried to improve on quality, but don't think it's really succeeded - just possible the third one is the best.         Might try to improve on this when I next visit.                  I think the wording says.......... 'outside view of dish showing shape'.

Mike - I don't know if you are still interested in acquiring a Sowerby pattern 1374 dish in IQW, but there is currently one being auctioned on Ebay at
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302171167594?euid=d931356393e448c6a7cb1d5a56c5ab77&bu=43170885097&cp=1&sojTags=bu=bu

In addition, for permanent reference on the GMB, here is the image from page 11 of pattern book IX (1882).

Thanks Fred, I am watching that one, but I suspect it may end up being a bit too much for me.
