Antique Blue Glass Set + Scent Bottle
« on: July 20, 2017, 10:12:44 AM »
Hi everybody!

I have received this glass set a couple of days ago.

I was wondering what kind of glass this is, and where it could have been made.
I think it's quite old, and could be opaline glass.

I'm thinking France or Bohemian.  Could be ca. 1850.
Maybe I'm far off.

Glass is not in perfect condition. It shows wear, couple of chips off here and there.
AND..  There's a structure of 100.000 miniature cracks on the surface of the glass.

Maybe this is just age.

I really hope somebody can tell me more about this set.

Here you can say the tiny cracks on the surface, seen through a loupe...

I think you are on the right track with French or Bohemian but I can not offer any evidence for one or the other, likewise a date of 1850 (or a bit later) seems reasonable.

Thank you very much.

Just today I had someone thinking is was 1860-1880.
So that makes sense.

He also mentioned it looks like baccarat, but I would think somebody would recognize that.
(I mean, somebody from auctions or etc. I have mailed, but most of 'em haven't responded yet.)

It looks as though it is crizzled perhaps but I don't know without seeing the glass? that's not age but degradation of the glass.

Does the underplate have a polished pontil mark - a very large one that nearly fills the whole base?

You might be able to match the plate design at some point.

I think the bowl and the cutting along the rim of the bowl might make me think c.1860 ish.

Yes it could be very well that it's some kind of glass disease or something.

The underside of the plates are flat.

I have been searching on the plates, but I couldn't find any matches.
