Is this Gunnel Nyman?
« on: June 14, 2019, 10:58:01 AM »
I'd always thought these were by Gunnel Nyman, but recently started to find auctions saying 'possibly by....'.

Does anybody know whether it is? And if not, who?

As I hope the photo shows, these are made to quite a high standard with careful scaling and positioning of the bubbles, etc.

They are not Gunnel Nyman. Too many online auctions have 'attributed to' or 'possibly by' in their listings in an attempt to inflate the price.

I'm not terribly "au fait" with accurate whitefriars colours - but the little bowl looks very Whitefriars-y.
(I know there are other makers of little bowls like this, although I'm not sure who.)
I have heard the way to tell a genuine Wfs one is if you can hook your fingertips under the rim a little bit.

Thanks Sue, but I'm a bit doubtful. The colour doesn't look similar to anything I can find in Whitefriars...and the quality of the items I can find online is really not at the same level of 'control'. These two are very precisely executed, with tiny bubbles in an exact pattern.

Maybe there's a Whitefriars expert who can help?

Not me  ;D
But I have just inspected a wfs one. The bubbles are pretty neatly arranged, but there is the odd one which is the wrong size. I've seen much neater from other (unknown) makers.
I think your blue is too green for the pale "arctic" blue wfs used.  :-\
It was just the shape of the small bowl. The other vase doesn't look wfs.
