Tall green tadpole vase
« on: September 12, 2019, 12:22:52 PM »
Hi all.
I purchased this with some Loetz Rusitcana but this isn’t.I have searched the usual suspects and can not find anything quite right. It has a green Powell W/F colour palette to it but I don’t think it’s W/F.
It’s nicely done with polished pontil.
Measures 1’ or 12” tall.
Any ideas to research would be appreciated.

I think that's (might be?) Stuart.

Can't find a ref for you at the mo but I think I've seen one in clear maybe in the museum pics that someone has posted from the Red House (?)

I've some catalogue pages somewhere - I'll try and dig them out over the next few days and see if it's in there.

Thanks flying free.
I will have a look down the Stuart route too.I did find a W/Friars vase in the same colour with similar tadpoles but on a pot bellied shape which was posted in the W/F .org site which is no longer there.
I’ll keep trying to find it.
Thanks again

Did Stevens and Williams also do a range back in the day, and did most Stuart glass have an acid stamp or only on later items ?.
Regards Kev.

Webb and Stevens and Williams also made applied peacock trails/tadpoles/cats eye/other applied pads descriptions.

For some reason I think this one is Stuart because of the spiral trails. However I think S&W also did these.

There are other Bohemian makers as well. But I think this is English glass.

Harrods stocked a huge range of Stuart applied and trailed - I need to check catalogues to see if it's in there.   There is also a Stuart catalogue/pattern book somewhere with these in but I don't have that.

actually wracking my brains I think it's an opalescent version of this I've seen and possibly id'd as Harrach, but I queried that iirc.(not that my query/opinion holds more water than the original id version as iirc it might have been in a book).

I'd need to look it up and other things beckon at the moment.

Will do later.

Thanks both.
I did find a piece in the same colour with spiral but on a squat vase on an online auction site attributed to Stuart based on Harrach.Comes up under google searches for Stuart tadpole.
Definitely not marked although there is a lot of wear to base.
Will keep searching.
Thanks again
