Help Identify Scandinavian Vase and Italian Candlestick
« on: September 24, 2019, 04:04:53 PM »
Hi, can anyone help me to identify two signed items of studio glass. One is a clear glass vase that looks to be scandinavian. Approx 35cm high. Theres about three lines of writing on the base that just won't come out in a photo. Only the last bit that looks like Slasja??? The other words/letters seem to be G Ny  then Nyle??? Probably miles out, but I just can't see. The piece is a candlestick. I guess Italian. Approx 35cm high again. Quite a complex structure of different coloured glass and gold leaf inside. The signature is pretty clear, but I can't make out who it is.
Would appreciate any help or hunches. Tim

Hello and welcome! :)
I am going to have to report you to a moderator - but do not worry about it! ;D
Your email address is not a good thing to be using for your name here - you could get harvested by spambots, so we'll have to ask you to change it to something else - purely for your own protection. :)
We do like each piece of glass to have a thread all to itself, conversation can get confusing if we are talking about different items in the same place, so can I ask you to start another thead for one of these pieces?
A moderator will then remove the images from this thread. They may well contact you over changing your username.
Having said all that - thank-you for posting such good clear images dorectly to the board - it is very much appreciated.

At first I read your interpretation of the writing to possibly be Svaja, but then I looked at the image - I suspect it reads Notsjo - which would mean Nuutajarvii Notsjo.

And I suspect the name on the candlestick might be Lundberg.
These are both very good names to have on anything.
Scandanavian glass isn't really my area - and there were several Lundbergs.
But somebody else here will be able to help more than I can.
Great pieces of glass for your first post - thanks for sharing! :)
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Hello and welcome.

I think your vase may be by Gunnel Nyman, but I'm having a bit of difficulty enlarging the pictures.  Suggest you google to be sure.

Nice piece.

I kind of reckoned that might be the name being described in words Cat, but I'm sure I can read Notsjo on the base of the vase. There are even the correct "double dots" on top of the letters.
Gunnel Nyman worked with Nuutajarvi. The vase looks right for her work. We're not on the wrong track.  :)

Would you please start another thread for the candlestick? Then a moderator can remove those pics from this thread and leave it entirely to Gunnel Nyman.
Thanks!

I would rather this be removed now as I have set up a separate account now with a profile name that isn’t my email address which you advised against. If you can help advise me how to totally delete this account, that would be a help. I can then set up a separate thread under my other account for the candlestick. Thanks

We'll have to ask a moderator to help with that.  :)
You can edit your own post for an hour afterwards, then it gets locked and any future changes need to be done behind the scenes.
I'll ask somebody.  :)

Hi Tim, it's me you need to speak with (I sent you an email earlier about it all - did it reach you?). I have removed your old signup and allocated its posts to your new signup name for you. Then we can split the items into two topics by you reposting the candlestick into a new topic. Don't worry - it's not a big issue to fix. :)
