"Battiston" Snail - Odd Label
« on: September 22, 2006, 09:58:14 PM »
Here's an odd label - "Battiston".  Doesn't quite sound Italian; I can't find any info. on the net or in Ivo's book.  Any information would be appreciated.  Found on this simple but nice little snail.  Would Battiston be a distributor?  If so, any thoughts on who made the snail?
Thanks,
Charles.  (PS - I'll also post to label board).

Hi Charles,

The label belongs to a shop. S Marco is a region on Venice itself, not on Murano. Here is a map, which shows where the shop is located.

Hopefully someone can attribute your snail for you, or maybe you could even email the shop, as they should know where it came from originally. It isn't obvious, but if you look under the address, where it says additonal information, telephone, if you click on telephone, it automatically takes you to a page where you can send an email.
Hope this helps, a little?  :)

Thanks Della-
Any way to say, based on the label, if the snail is contemporary, 5 years old, 20 years old...?  I didn't see an e-mail link on the company website. :(

For kicks, below is a photo of a fish that was bought along with the snail.  Maybe it will help ID the snail.  Can't be sure its the same maker, though.  Lacks label and is slightly more bluish than the smoke glass in the snail.
Thanks,
Charles.

Battistoni (Battiston with an i) is a truly legendary men's clothing shop in Rome that fashions hand-made to order suits.
