Fused glass (post-modern) dish...signed SCAGS or SLAGS ??
« on: January 09, 2008, 04:40:56 PM »
A bit of an odd one this...

17cm (7in) square fused glass dish with fired enamel decoration signed on the bottom SCAGS or SLAGS, niether sound particually nice names so I thought it may be an acronym? ...."Southern Californian Glass Studio" sounded nice but saddly does'nt seem to exist.......looks very 1980s and I cant decide if I actually like it or not, but it does have 'something'.

All opinions, comments and ID ideas very welcome...

Many thanks,
Martyn.

Found this on a directory site you possibly don't want to visit (SiteAdvisor red flags it as very spammy so I visited the Google cache version instead)...

And I'd very happily use it as an ashtray. As an ashtray, it's decidedly funky.

Sue & Max,

as an ashtray it would be a nightmare to clean (speaking as a smoker, who also does the washing-up)...ashtray indeed...tut....it's an art glass dish!

Those crosswords are addictive, I had to give up buying the papers because I'd waste hours doing them...I won't fall in to the trap of putting the two words together, with you two and Anne having responded I'd probably be banned from the board.

Maybe the maker was dyslexic with a poor memory who wrote it on there to remind themselves what they made it out of?

What lead me to Sydney and Australia was a passing stylistic resemblance to some 1980s pieces by Warren Langley who I think had some connections with the college.
