If it were an Australian piece I'd have thought there'd be a mention in Conway's Australian Glass, but it's not there. Perhaps Cathy can add more.

If that's a kookaburra, it's not a very good representation, which makes me think it's not Australian.  The feet are different, the eyes on a kookaburra are nearer the beak, the nostril not nearly as large, the beak sharper...

Hi,
The size and acuteness of the bill, will have been determined by the technique of press-moulding. No point whatsoever in an accurate representation of the beak, if it gets broken/damaged as it leaves the mould.

Definitely not made in Australia, but probably for the Australian market as it looks close enough to something that Australians would recognise as a kooka. If it were made in Czechoslovakia for the Aus market they would be working from photographs, which might also account for some differences.

... may be pattern number 1996, from Libochovice a.s. and would have stood in a matched 335mm diameter bowl, pattern number 1995. Frog and centre piece were supplied as one item....

Having seen the catalogue image of 1995, not even close!
