Help with ID of my"Tree Trunk" Vase

<< < (2/3) > >>

Max:
It doesn't look like it has uranium content to me.  :?  I've seen a lot of this type of glass either on this message board or whizzing through Ebay, I've never been sure where it comes from,  I think it's jolly hard to say exactly!

Here's a similar one I've just taken from the shed (otherwise known as 'The Glass Reference Library'

David E:
 Blimey, almost looks as though it's morphiing from one vase to another

Max, your vase does look very similar and while I'm not entirely sure about the uranium, I mention it as a possibility. The one way to confirm for sure is a UV (black) light, of course.

When I plonked the red version of mine on 'Isit Whitefriars' one opinion offered was that it could be Czech or German, hence the reason for suggesting this (I thought it was this forum, but having found that thread it was actually inconclusive). See:

Knobbly Vase

But I agree that it is difficult to ID!

Thanks for the pic David, looks as if it may come from the same family as mine too has a flat very polished base...

and Max..sorry but for some reason I can't open the photo you have kindly posted, it doesn't even flicker when I click on it...probably my computer which has it's own childish personality and will not grow up!  Needs nursing along a lot.  Usually when it doesn't like an attachment , windows pop up all over the place telling me so, but in this case you little icon just stares back at me rather sulkily I have to say.  Not to worry. If anything comes to light on this type of glass, I'll let you all know.

Might be the TinyPic server that's a bit slow - I have noticed this today. I'm just as curious as you to ID it though!

What's your real name incidentally? Always nice to know this  :)

Hello again, still no further on with id, but I think this looks like dichroic glass, (not uranium). If we can sort out if it is dichroic or not, that might help narrow down who might have made it.
Can the same bit of the glass look amber or green, depending on the light or the angle you're looking from?
