need help ID on Bristol Yellow/Honey amber (uranium) stem
« on: January 03, 2009, 08:43:26 PM »
Any help on an ID would be greatly appreciated (maker or specific name for this shape).
Is this a flute? I think it is a little short (both height and volume) for a pilsner.  It is 7 5/8" tall.  Foot is 3 1/8" diameter.  pontil is a clean snap off.  The color is very similar to Steuben's BRISTOL YELLOW (Steuben's name for it), which is sort of a honey amber that has uranium salts present.  Yes, it glows great. It is not marked.
I looked through both Gardner's book and Dimitroff's book.  The closest I came to was in Gardner, pg. 197, bottom row, 2nd from right, labeled shape 5105.  However, that one is missing the ball at the base and is 7 1/2", not 7 5/8".  above the ball at the base, it is a trapped bubble.  This was a gift to me, and the giver still has a few of them at home.  It would be great to help her with an ID.

I would say it's a flute, possibly for champagne.

I sent you a scan of a glass that reminded me of this one with the subject "flute".
