Smokey Colored Deco Vase - FRANCE
« on: May 06, 2010, 11:11:58 PM »
I no nothing about this except what it states in the title.  It is about 6.5 inches tall, the opening is about 4.5 inches wide, and the base is about 2.75 inches wide.  Base does have raised lettering stating FRANCE.  To me it looks kinda of Deco.  Is this old?  Anyone have an idea?

I kinda like it... :)

Thanks

Hi Rose, I *think* these are Arcoroc or Luminarc, fairly recent production (1960s-1980s), and produced in huge quantities in France.

Thanks Anne.  I was wondering, but I was looking for a little *L* for Luminarc.  When I was trying to figure it out before I had posted it, I do remember I saw something by the name of Arcoroc in my Google travels.

It still has the look of Deco to it - or is that just me?

Thanks as always  :kissy:

Very similar vases to these were produced by Daum. They usually have a stencilled "FRANCE" mark to their bases and were produced in polished flint and do not feel "waxy". Any help? Jazz

Not in this case Jazz, as the mark is raised so would be a part of the mould, rather than a stencil. These are mass-produced not Daum...

Sorry Anne, my mistake, however I do have a couple of these vases which I have just checked.  ONE (in grey-smoke) having a stenciled mark "FRANCE" the other in pink glass with "FRANCE" slightly raised. I was always under the impression that these were by Daum?  Not expensive/disirable/EARLY dated items, but Daum, just the same. . .  We live and we learn! :spls:

Hmmm interesting Jazz, perhaps Ivo can add more to this discussion as he's well up on this sort of thing.

Sure. This is a mass produced vase from the house of ARC which brought you table- and cookware under such brand names as Arcoroc, Arcopal, Crystal d'Arques and J.G. Durand. The company is famed for producing more than 1 million glass pieces per day, and they have an extensive glass design school on the premises. I cannot see where Daum comes in. It is in a different class altogether. And really, Daum do not make pressed household glass - not in the past, not in the present and not in future.

Hi Ivo.  Please forgive my ignorance, but i am assuming that Cristallerie Daum c1962 until present have indeed been producing the above types of patterned vases in polished flint! Mass produced items. I am not suggesting Daum Freres, but am I not correct in saying that just as Lalique is now owned under licence and just by name, so too is Daum who do indeed (by name only) NOW produce large quantities of numerous glass items as producers: Cristallerie Daum?  Am only giving some food for thought! Jazz

I have an arcoroc reproduction cut glass dish and it has "Arcoroc ' in raised glass on it. I dont know if all were marked but its a pretty good fist sight visual of the real thing.
