Smokey Vase, very heavy - CZECH ???
« on: July 13, 2010, 08:01:33 AM »
Hi, I just picked this up -- and not sure what it is, or for that matter -- how to describe it.

Well it is a smokey color and that I know for sure.....and (I guess) sort of like a tulip design (??).  Each side has a thick lobe running down it.  There are on each panel (slight) indentation design of curved dual lines (??).  The smoke color is a different darker near the bottom.  The bottom base is polished,  with also an concave in the middle.  Seems to show some wear.....and this Vase is extremely Heavy !!

It is about 7.50 inches tall, with a opening about 8 inches long, and 3.25 inches wide.  The base is about 2.5 inches wide....and like I said before -- weighs a Ton.  Very, very heavy....seems very well made, IMHO.

Any info....Thxs

Rose, it's a beautiful vase -- quite masculine, sensual...  I wonder where it was made?  Is it Scandinavian? Czech?  Italian?  Wish so much I was more knowledgable  :spls:

I think, or at least I'm hoping, it's Czech  :pb:   But then again, I don't think it would have a concave pontil mark...

Have been rooting around here, and I wonder if the *shape* of the vase (might) be a (kinda) style of a (??) Honfleur design, rather than saying it is Tulip shaped (??).  Could the lobes on the side (might be) considered a type of handle......or just a design (??)

Hard to find anything googling when I do not even know how to describe the shape of this vase...

See, now I am confused bit time here....as that other post with label (CZECH) http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,34834.0.html  the base of that one, kinda remind me of this one.....Or what am I missing?  Should Czech be added to the title to get some more opinions on it.

This vase is just as heavy, IF not heavier than that other Czech yellow vase.....so now I am confused about the bottoms of these two (???) can you add Czech??? to the title maybe.

Thanks

Hi Rose...

I don't know, maybe I should finally start wearing my eyeglasses and stop pretending I see everything perfectly, but I really don't see any similarities between the base of this vase and your Rosice bullet vase.

Still trying to figure this one out.  Now this may be (most likely is) a silly question.....but is there *any* resemblance to the polished concave base of this posted vase and this ONE (???) HERE

(that one in the link has a signature, mine does not -- but I am just trying to find some bases like this one -- then go from there....  :-\  at least Trying to find *some* starting point on this vase...)

...Or is this base on this Orange Vase-HERE-Poss Czech something similar to the base of mine ???

?
