Glass Penguin - iridescent, clear, some motted white (??)
« on: September 04, 2010, 07:22:19 AM »
:hi:  I got this today.  I guess it is a penguin with lots of iridescent....not sure you would call it a PW, or just an animal.  I bought it because it reminded me of the Egg Shaped PW that has the same iridescent tones to it.  About 6 inches tall.

That link is here:  http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,33851.0.html

So that is why I bought it -- it reminded me of that one.  Now this one has what is left of a Triangular label (ignore the marks of red on it, as the place where I bought it uses a Red Grease pencil on the bottom of things -- Gr-r-r-r-r-r) so who knows that Color the label was before.  I am assuming, that the label (might) have been foil, because the messy sticky backing is still there.  If it was just a paper label, I think all of it would have been gone with no traces, as it would have washed right off.  This is only a guess though.  Not sure if this might be from "The Glassy Eye" or not as stated in the other related link here....as I will have to see if their are any label there at all -- that are at least a Triangular shape.  It is a bit of a lead, but not much, but at least we have the *shape* of the label.  Base shows some wear.

Thanks as always.....They kinda look nice together (the egg PW and the Penguin).  May its it egg...LOL

Left-field thought - that triangular sticker reminds me of Isle of Wight - have you checked them?

Rose/Ross  -  re the suggestion of IOW.   Looking at Mark Hill's book, would appear that their triangular sticker was in black only.    There are rectangular stickers, in both a pale buff and black:)

thanks Paul S/Ross -- The Red is from a RED Grease pencil they use to mark stuff.  I had a red *A* (For August ??) that was written on by the store.  They do this all the time, so they know how long it has been there (in case it needs to be reduced).  They always write the marks with this red grease pencil on label and stuff (makes me mad.. >:() but if they did not, then people would just *rub* the grease pencil off from the slippery glass surface.

Gee I wished I had taken a pic before I tried to get rid of the red grease pencil mark on the label -- as I kinda tried to rub the red grease pencil off the label some before I took the pic.

So who knows what color the label may have been -- but I did see that IOW does have a label that is in that shape.  I have been rooting around, but have found no Penguin  :nix: ----- Yet.  ;)

The Design Center London had a triangular label, it was used on various manufacturers products: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-10501

John I was just thinking that and you beat me to posting. ;D

Rose, what size in mm is your label? I have some glasses with the Design Centre label on - I can measure and compare sizes with you. :)

And the IOW labels corners are a bit sharper round (smaller radius) if I recall.

Rose, You got this in Canada, at a local shop right?  We may be on the wrong coast.

It wouldn't surprise me if this was from a Canadian studio; this is just the sort of bread and butter item that small studios make.

With that sort of lustre on it, IoWSG can be ruled out.
To my knowledge, they've only recently started making penguins - there are none on the site, but I have a small blue one. It's a wee dumpy cute thing, very well modelled, and quite different to this!

It's a bit reminiscent of Phoenecian glass, which also had triangular labels at some point - see here.

 >:D >:D >:D or maybe it's yet another "Boffo frigger"........  :24:

sorryRose, I'm not being serious - ignore that last comment - i just couldn't resist a little dig!
