Christine & Frank, these were pretty big images. I tried reducing them to the standard 700 px and it didn't do the trick. The same happens with my photos - I have a fairly meaty Olympus SLR (E-30) and reducing them to 700px still leaves a file size that's too big, so I have to take down the resolution a touch as well. This will increasingly be a problem as the resolution of cameras goes up.

Edited to add: Just checked Irfanview - Aha. The default jpeg compression is 80%, which might be why it works consistently for others.

Anyway, that's all OT  :hj: Hope someone can help with the jug

All we can say is Nailsea type, you need to visit an appropriate museum or auction house to take it further. Phone first as you don't want to go somewhere that cannot offer knowledge of Nailsea.
