Edinburgh Crystal
« on: March 05, 2011, 08:48:32 PM »
HI ,i need your help on this one i have been offered this big glass to buy it is beautifully cut a part from the engraving at the front  E.R coronation June 2 nd 1953  this is really poor quality  if it was not for the engraving i would buy it now but i think it devalues it .So is the piece older then the engraving or vice versa and is it Edinburgh crystal. Height 211,mm Width 143,mm  Thank you.

"So is the piece older then the engraving or vice versa" - forgive my sense of humour robert  -  it's the vice versa bit that I'm scratching my head over  -  are you suggesting that the engraving was there before the glass ;D.      Apologies, regret I can't add anything sensible. :wsh:    The choice tho. must be yours  -  beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :)

If the price was right, I'd buy it and display it with the engraving towards the back!  I've actually one or two like that myself

Personally, I'd have thought the coronation factor should bring the price down - it's something that sort of limits it to being of interest pretty much only to collectors of royal stuff.

I certainly wouldn't at that price!

But that is just me, and I'm not in favour of royalty....

Definitely the 6th, but I'm also fairly sure he was basically a French courtier.
