It's surprising what things can contain Uranium. :sm:
That bowl may well do so. (I think I might be more surprised if it didn't.)

I really don't like ebay myself - but as I live half way up the east coast of Scotland, I can't get to Fairs and antiquey places and markets, there's very little around me, so I'm stuck with ebay.
And if you're buying through listing descriptions and only one photograph you need the correct information about the thing - otherwise it's a waste of everybody's time and effort and money - everybody is unhappy except the post office and the owners of ebay.

It sounds brutal but I just dont have time to check, I've just been and collected another 3 boxes of ceramics that need sorting & havnt a clue where my black light is. I'm gona have get rid of my garrage & lil unit & get a big one. I might even open it up on a sunday afternoon.
I did used to enjoy it untill detaild feedback & the loophole where it legalised theft & fraud, it used to be almost like an internet carboot sale, it was fun but now its gone all serious. My feedback is fine & also my detaild feedback.
I had 16 of those babycham glasses from a clearance sold them in 3 lots yet someone has complained about the quality??? there a bothery standard mass produced item & all of the same quality?? its stuff like that & people being picky in a nonsencical way. Granted I'm guilty of not spotting that chip but if it was on my stall at my weekly antiques market or at newark it wouldnt of mattered. Saying that I'd of let it go for £15 there & not of got the price its going for.

There must be a few carboots or something like that near you? These events need more support to keep fun events going.

There are a couple of car boots - about 20 miles away, once a month but I can't get to them. I don't have a car or drive.
I've only ever bought stuff on ebay. I have to agree with you though, it's really not what it used to be - I'm finding some pretty awful sellers who don't describe or even mention, considerable damage, then won't pay return postage.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

  Hi All! :hi:

I Have NEVER sold any Glass on E-bay but because things have been a bit slow at the Fayre I go to once a month, I have been seriously considering selling a few of my 'nicer' items and oddly enough one is a Mdina Attenuated bottle Vase with random strapping that is MARKED Mdina Glass 1975 ( Id'd by Our very own Sue M aka Chopin-Liszt)  and the Other is a Isle of Wight  pedestal Paperweight that is SIGNED Michael Harris Isle of Wight,  However if I had reservations before, After reading everything here I'm definately put off!! please reassure it me its not all that BAD!!!

                                           Warmest Wishes,

                                             John

It's not all that bad John. I have bought some fantastic bits on ebay, the odd turkey but they were really my fault, not looking carefully enough. I have sold off old collections and the worst is usually a parcel delayed in the post for a week or so. Your packaging needs to be good though. You can always ask for advice in the cafe. The odd awkward customer exists but they are usually having a bad day and patience and a smile normally works wonders.

John

I'd like to second the support of Ebay . Like Sue I live in a remote place - albeit Perth in Western Australia - and while there is a lively lot of collectors fairs, trash and treasures etc around the city, after a while it becomes obvious that there are only a few dealers going from one to the other with the same stock. As I collect mostly English and Scottish glass, that in itself is fairly rare to find here. My collection has about 500 pieces of glass - some bought in UK when I lived there 35 years ago, about 30 pieces bought locally over a long period of time, about 20 more bought from Australian Ebay, and the remainder - the vast bulk of it - bought from Ebay internationally. Without Ebay I just couldn't be a collector!

I have been lucky with my sellers, but have always asked questions, asked for more photos etc. If I have had any doubts about the quality or origin of the item I just don't bid. My postage costs are so high to get things here that it is not worth the disappointment when something is not right, as sellers do not refund postage costs. I also don't buy damaged goods because of the high cost of postage, and have been furious in the past when I have received an item with an undisclosed chip.

So go ahead - list your pieces, honestly and well described - and please sell to Australia too - don't limit sales to the UK please  :) Our $ is very strong against the UK£ at present - we could be your best customers!

I would like to support Ebay as well. Over the last 10 years I have sold over 3000 items  mostly glass  and bought over 2000 items. I hear a lot about bad sellers on ebay but I would like to say for every bad seller there is a bad buyer.

I have only had one item delivered broke. However I was defrauded out of £240.00 by a German buyer last year when they said an item was delivered damaged, the item was fully insured, I never received any pictures of the damage and never received the item back so my claim was unsuccessful. I blame Paypal for all the problems which occurred with the claim.

And on the other hand I sold a paperweight for £140.00 before Christmas when the bad weather was about and after about 4 weeks the item had not been delivered I sent a full refund only to be told that it arrived the next day , they then repaid for the item.

I think selling on Ebay is a good experience 99.9 % of the time as long as you describe items correctly show pictures of any chips and should you have any problems offer to pay the return postage which I have always done on the very rare occasion that there has been a problem.

Selling on ebay is not bad. I sell sporadically but have notched up about 1400 sales over 10 years. My biggest issue has been with non-paying bidders.I think I've had two broken items (sent ones, more received ones) and one completely lost one (others have surfaced eventually). Pack very well, use good photos (I try and get away with one but will supply more if asked) describe accurately but concisely, give dimensions, keep your T&Cs brief and remember we don't care if it belonged to great aunt Nellie or whether you're trying to fund your cat's op. Oh and don't be surprised if you never hear from your buyers; I always assume no news is good news.

I received a very threatening and abusive email from Mr Shugdens. Water off a ducks back.
There are things wrong with Ebay but then there are things wrong with everything in this life and although I dint like many of the things that Ebay insist on it still one of the best ways of selling all most anything you have without having to get up half past oh my god and freeze your assets off.
I always put as many quality pictures on as I can together with a detailed description  of the piece. Just putting signed isn't good enough. If there is damage then put it. You cant describe a piece as in Excellent Condition or No Damage whatsoever and then find further down the page you reveal there is just a small chip somewhere. It will eventually come and bite you on the old proverbial.
Even Many auction houses fall foul of this when they just put signed. Signed what?????????????? and then you have to send off emails to try and wrestle out of them just exactly what it is that is signed there.
It always amazes me that the internet exists primarily for the exchange of information in all its guises and yet we manage to do just the opposite and make the swapping of information like pulling teeth.

You're absolutely right not to worry about it, Mike  :-*

( :24: see the comment I just made to you in the Ditchfield thread!)
If someone's not willing to learn there's no hope for them.
