Pressed Glass Compote with Daffodil motif
« on: September 17, 2011, 02:22:06 AM »
My grandmother had this pressed glass large compote when I was a toddler in the '50's.  It is 10 3/4 wide and 5 " high.  The all over daffodil motif is a relief design.  Rather heavy.  I can faintly see the press marks.  Any ideas on the maker, age and value.  Thanks for any guidance.

Could someone please help me with inserting pictures on this forum?  I resized my pics, downloaded them to flickr with access to all.  I hit the little picture icon and pasted the url in between the img icons.  What am I doing wrong?  I just can't pics to post on this forum.  Thank you.

If you hit attach a picture, you are supposed to attach a file name on your own computr - not a link  to a website. If you want to attach a website, just do that in the text.

Help, please.  If I attach a picture, it will not post.  Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, your images will be too big for the board to handle. If you've uploaded them to Flickr you can just paste a link to your images' locations into your topic - you don't need to wrap them in the img tags. I've unwrapped them for you and now the links are visible.

We have a help topic that covers images here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Glad my memory was correct. I don't have the Wilson book readily at hand, so you might post the proper name etc. of that comport here so that others can link the picture with the proper name, history, etc.

I didn't have a copy of the book for reference, but I found one of these that sold on Ruby Lane for $235 with the following description.
"Designed by Reuben Haley and introduced in 1926, Consolidated’s Martele’ line of art glass was inspired by the glorious works of Rene’ Lalique featured at the 1925 Paris Exposition. Haley, who had previously been associated with Hocking and Fostoria, worked with his son Kenneth to produce the Martele' collection. An early catalog from Consolidated describes the line as combining “the skill of the artist, sculptor and glass artisan to bring out the hand wrought motifs obtained from nature’s own laboratories…the sea, the sky and the land have each supplied an inspiration to the artists.” This splendid and rare Consolidated Martele’ Orchid pattern footed, flared Comport or Console bowl, with a lovely sunshine yellow wash over crystal glass, is in excellent condition, with wonderful mold and color. There is a single miniscule internal bubble at the rim, but free from chipping or cracking. Unmarked, but guaranteed to be authentic Consolidated Martele’ glass. H 4.5”, D 10.75”, base 4.75”. "

Thanks so much for your help on this.
