Lots of tiny bubble producing cloudiness
« on: October 09, 2011, 04:37:04 PM »
Hi.  I have a question regarding animal/paperweight I bought recently.  The glass is full of tiny bubbles which gives the glass an overall 'cloudy' look (like water out of the tap sometimes looks when it's full of bubbles).  Is this a sign of poor workmanship or is it an intentional design feature?

Thanks!
Nancy

Probably intentional. A photo would help.

Many thanks Frank.  I have to say I don't really like the effect - makes the piece dull looking.

i have a small vase like it it gives it a powdery sandy effect . i think it might be called bollicine a chemical is added to make the glass frothy.
there is always someone worse off .

Does seem a pointless technique for glass as it it kills its qualities, used sparingly OK. Probably one of the 'groovy' techniques that gets revived when someone new tries it, instead of buried.

Or it could look rather good for an animal or bird, as it might give a fairly realistic colouring (from a distance, if not close up). Maybe it could turn out to be one of the neat effects by a Murano master??

Any chance of a photo of the whole thing?

Well, I suppose I could like it if it was created by a Murano master, Kevin . . . ;)
